    More About Plantd

    Our Projects

    Senegal Agroforestry

In Senegal, the conventional crop intensification model has proven inadequate, jeopardizing livelihoods, degrading soils, contributing to biodiversity loss, and aggravating the effects of climate change. Peanut monocropping has led to adverse environmental and economic impacts. Despite successful past management, the Ndankou and Patte Forests face threats such as encroaching peanut farming and reduced forest cover.

    East African Mangroves

Coastal communities in Eastern Africa depend on the mangrove ecosystems for employment, livelihood, and nutrition. In recent decades, these coastal areas have been urbanized at unprecedented rates. Mangrove forests were converted into other land use. Coupled with a lack of effective governance, mangroves were overexploited and over-harvested. The destruction of the mangrove forests also contributed to the loss of critical habitats for many organisms. Threatening the livelihoods of these impoverished communities, pushing them further into poverty.

    Senegal Farming & Reforestation

GPF1 is a new model working with women's groups in Senegal. This consists of 25 women's groups with 100 women in each group. They were previously provided a well and metal fencing, but the fencing is deteriorating, so as part of this project they will plant a permanent living fence (a key part of the Forest Garden Approach) and will jointly develop a forest garden on their land.

    Longleaf Pine Reforestation

The Reforestation of longleaf pine will concentrate efforts to restore, enhance, and conserve longleaf pine ecosystems within the Longleaf Ridge and Big Thicket SGAs, two landscapes that have been identified as priority areas within the America’s Longleaf Range Wide Conservation Plan.

    Natural Disaster Reforestation

This project will reforest private lands impacted by natural disasters (hurricanes, wildfires, floods, etc.) throughout the Southeast. Native species including longleaf, shortleaf, slash and loblolly pine will be planted where appropriate based on the site conditions. Plantings will benefit watershed protection, enhance wildlife habitat, and sequester carbon.

    Rim Wildfire Restoration

This project is designed to restore landscape mosaics of both old Forest structure and Open Canopy structure within the footprint of the 2013 Rim Fire. This project occurs in the Tuolumne Watershed, a key watershed within California. The Tuolumne Watershed is a critical supplier of water to the Central Valley and the Bay Area, and restored forests will provide both water supply and water quality benefits. Restoring mixed conifer forests will reduce erosion, increase structure and thermal cover for wildlife species, and lower water temperature in riparian areas, while simultaneously increasing carbon sequestration.

    Honduras Reforestation

Between 2011 and 2015, Honduras lost 500,000 hectares (nearly 2,000 sq. miles, 5,000 sq. kilometers) of forest due to an infestation of disease-carrying pine beetles. The destruction of forests caused water tables to run low, protected areas to lose valuable biodiversity, and surrounding communities to lose jobs. By working directly with local communities to reforest these regions, water supplies are being restored, natural habitats are being created for local wildlife, and communities are being provided with job opportunities and resources to build up their economy.

    Philippines Reforestation

Deforestation in the Philippines primarily began in the 1960s and has since destroyed nearly 90% of the forest, displacing rural community members. Through the employment of the local community, we will plant over 3,000 hectares (nearly 7,500 acres) of forest land while employing local people.
